Poem: Time is happening (haiku & tanka) + Dissonance short film

(Haiku in 3 variations):
Look up from your phone
Leave it aside for awhile
Rest your eyes and mind.

Trackers, hackers, spies
Influencers, Followers
Big Brother smart phone.

Text email games apps
Instant message, always on
Alone together.

(Tanka in 4 variations):
Life is happening
Time won’t stop until you’re dead
Regrets are piling
Look away and it’s over
Now while future tripping hope.

Half-actualized
Misunderstanding the gift
Semi-unconscious
Lose the moment forever
Lose the present like a ghost.

Turn the ship around
There’s still time to change the course
Our leaders are sick
Psychopathic criminals
No one can fix this but us.

Revolution time
We’re the leadership we need
Stop waiting for help
Trusting in the government’s
like believing in Satan.

  1. I’ve been having a small break from WP, and all social media, trying to relax, but I miss the posts and friendships. It’s a double edged sword. There’s a push and pull. There’s advantages and disadvantages to online connection. I love your poem Judy, and, to me, it talks about getting away from the insanity of it all, once in a while, but through it, there’s the possibilty to change things for the better.

    1. Thank you. I was also trying to take a break but then felt like I was missing something :). It’s like we all have to stop, or we never will. I miss the days of having landlines and answering machines, we seemed to have much more freedom then.

      1. Yes, we have FOMO in bucket loads! I miss those days too, when we could go out and no-one could contact us, or stay in and not be reached unless someone phoned or knocked on the door. Happy days in some ways.

      2. I head felt clearer and I slept deeply then, now I feel on edge. I remember when it was rude for someone to take a cellphone call while with others. I liked being unattached, separate from technology, so much has changed, so much more unnatural.

      3. I had a break from WP for two weeks and I’m a bit more peaceful and had better sleeps too! I’ve said I’m going to disengage so many times. I do a barrage of posts and then have a much needed break and then come back again. That works for me. As you say, unless we all come off it, it’s not going to work. So we need to work round it, somehow.

  2. Sometimes I wonder if we’re living in the most dangerous of times. Every civilization thinks they are from the dawn of recorded history. However, they never had technology like we have right now, at least as far as we know.

    1. I agree with you. It feels like we’re at the brink of a hyper leap of change. VR creeps me out, getting hard to discern reality from artificial. I wish we could slow down, I miss the old days.
