Cultural Appropriation vs Appreciation: Transracial Identity 🤡

The difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation is respect (acknowledgement) vs stereotyping and theft.

London needs to research authentic Korean culture before pretending to be an expert Korean by costuming in fetishized Japanese kimonos and props.

Wannabe Oli London is the epitome of cultural appropriation. What right does this person have to display the South Korean flag in LGBTQ rainbow branding to suit to their liking? This is a modern day form of colonialism. Pride month is no excuse to alter the integrity of a country’s flag. The red, blue and white have meaning and purpose. Go design your own flag, Oli London; I suggest using the poop emoji to represent yourself. I remember when rainbows (and unicorns) represented childhood innocence and the rainbow was also a symbol of hope to Jews and Christians, before it was appropriated by LGBTQ+ activists. I think no one group has the right to brand the rainbow as their exclusive symbol anyway.

Oli London is as British as their name, but claims to be Korean because they had 15 plastic surgeries with the intention to mimic KPop idol Park, Jimin. I see London as a non-binary version of Rachel Dolezal as well as Michael Jackson. Self-hatred via plastic surgery and body dysmorphia seems to be the new normal trend.

Whatever happened to self-acceptance and the self-confidence that comes with knowing that your imperfect self is exactly the way it should be? I think distinct physical features are often strikingly beautiful. I grew up thinking that non-conformity was a brave and wonderful attribute but our society doesn’t seem to support that concept anymore. Conformity equals mob culture to me. Do this or else, represents Cancel Culture. What happened to this generation that made them so insecure, so fixated on superficial identities and self-entitlement?

Oblivious people don’t seem to understand that it’s not a compliment to steal from another culture or act as an expert on a cultural topic that you don’t belong to or understand. Admiration of a culture doesn’t necessitate putting on a caricatured costume. It’s like how the word exotic (used to describe Asians and POC) is an insult not a compliment. https://seoulsister.blog/2020/10/07/3-posts-in-1-blackface-trans-racial-identity-and-the-white-savior-myth/.

I think London isn’t even a true fan of Park, Jimin. London is a social parasite that just wants the notoriety of creeping into Park, Jimin’s spotlight. No matter how many surgeries London undergoes, London can’t recreate Park, Jimin’s elegant features or his hard-won talent. In this case, imitation is not a form of flattery but of blatant disrespect. London’s bloated, surgically altered face looks Caucasian not Korean.

London is a perfect example of White Privilege.

Be yourself, everyone else is taken.

Oscar Wilde
Oli London had 15 surgeries, costing approximately $150,000. What a privileged asshole. A blind person could see that there’s absolutely no resemblance.

Stop insulting Koreans with your stereotype of what we look or sound like, your pronunciation is terrible, stop butchering our language. Stop misrepresenting us while acting as an expert. Koreans wear hanbok not kimonos, you attention-seeking creep. Don’t merge asian cultures together to suit to your liking. Stop objectifying and fetishizing us.

  1. Powerful post.Judy. Maybe one of the advantages of being out of date is not knowing who a wannabe like this loser/poser was. You called him out on several things. Good job

    1. Thank you, Pat. I think I’m out of date too, (I think we’re not missing much though), so much of current pop culture seems like a circus show, who knows what’s next!?

      1. Funny that you should say that. I’ve commented before that the animal rights activists got rid of the circus…unfortunately, instead of a few days/year in one building we now see it every day and almost everywhere.

      2. People have become the freak show of old carnival days willingly. It’s so bizarre how they want much they crave attention, even negative attention. I personally disliked circuses for enslaving the animals and forcing them to perform (but I like the Cirq du Soleil type of human acrobatic shows). Zoos make me sad too, (not enough space and artificial environments). The animals are so much wiser than humans, we have so much intelligence but refuse to use it for good.

      3. Right on. (I too, feel sorry for the enslaved animals.) Interesting how humans always think they are better yet some prefer to act like animals. (A recent story on a celebration comes to mind.)

      4. True, humans act like they’re so noble but they lack the kindness of especially domesticated animals. Dogs are more loyal than most people. Unfortunately there are even insane people who “identity as a dog”, it’s a gross fetish where they wear dog collars and a dog mask! It’s beyond my understanding.

  2. You made some great points, totally agree. I think this generation was broken by school and media. Our entire culture is conformity now, unfortunately.

    1. Thank you. Yes something changed drastically in schools and the media, no accountability, just a lot of blame/entitlement. It makes me think the world will break down soon and not from climate change either.

  3. Straight to the point Judy. No wasted words on political correct butt smooching, you say what needs to be said. I can see the poop emoji resemblance but try as I might, I can’t see a miligram of Korean beauty of soul, strength, and vitality in this poop emoji pervo.

    1. Thank you Dan. I think London has an over abundance of self-loathing and likes the negative coverage, no publicity is bad mentality, I think if poop emojis were trending London would wear it all day without any shame.

      1. LOL! I think the poop emoji helps elevate London a bit. A badge of honor perhaps. Internationally, they certainly aren’t alone. The competition for number one poopy place has a large number of hopefuls on the list.

      2. Oops, my senility kicked in and I jumped to London the city. My apologies for a total lack of focus. Old folks are like that, I guess. 🤭🤔

      3. Race and culture appropriation seems like it’s the latest fad. The appropriaters don’t bother with even faking authenticity, they just go with their own bizarre interpretation and dare anyone to call them out. My daughters don’t play well with that genre of bipedal hominid.

      4. Bizarre interpretation is a good way to describe the issue. It’s another form of seeing other races as “exotic” or “alien”. Some people want plastic surgery to look like animals. We’ve gone past the edge of insanity.

  4. Admittedly, I don’t subscribe to pop culture for many reasons (what a waste of time) but agree with your commentary. As always, you hit it on the head and go straight to the heart of the matter. I totally agree that “self-hatred via plastic surgery and body dysmorphia seems to be the new normal trend,” and how absolutely pathetic these plastic people have become both inside and out — completely soul-less robots programmed by Big Tech, MSM, and marketing messages to be perfect if you do ____ or ____. Obviously, the monsters who are making monsters by doing this surgery are purely profit motivated. Thank you for exposing the creepiness; I don’t believe or accept that their reality is at all sane.

    1. Thank you, WG. Good point to hold the surgeons responsible as well, they’re enabling the mutilation for profit. I’ve heard of people getting surgery to look like animals, vampire and demons too (with fangs, eye injections to make the whites of the eyes black and devil horn implants), it’s a total freak show nowadays. I think plastic surgery should be reserved for correcting birth deformities or from accidents, not be used for vain purposes. It seems like it’s a status symbol to be able to transform yourself, (what a waste of money).

      1. Yes, what a waste of money (and humanity). You would think those dollars could be put to so much more good use. I suppose our counter move is to ignore them and not blink an eye for the attention they so shallowly crave. Actually, these are the LAST people I would want to be around. Presumably, you have a large population of them in CA?

      2. Ignoring is a good idea, that infuriates them probably. I have sympathy fir genuine transgender people who just want to be left alone, but I take issue with the fake transgender who just want attention or to join a trend, or some that compete unfairly in women’s sports. I have friends who are transgender and they are good people who don’t act entitled to everything. CA attracts the crazies for sure, sad place from what it used to be just a few decades ago it was a beautiful, livable place.
